Julie got to spend Friday morning paseando/strolling with Carina and cuddling baby Gabriela. Then Carina, Fer, Gabriela, Julie and David had a drink at La Tana. After chess and robotics, David took the kids to play basketball at Bola de Oro with Julian/Rafa, David/Jose/Elena/Carmen, and Sael/Susana/Mar. Afterward we had drinks and dinner while standing at a makeshift table at Curro. We had great conversations about accents and Jose and Susana’s challenging but meaningful work, all while drops of water fell off the awning.
Saturday morning the kids had a blast at their basketball games and played very well. We hopped on the bus to get from Victoria Eugenia to Palacio Gran Vía eager for the arrival of Mama Sue and Poppy. While on the bus the kids hatched a plan: before the grandparents arrived, the guapos politely asked the reception staff to prank them during check in by saying they had been upgraded to the Tar Heel suite and informing them the gym was unexpectedly closed for repairs until further notice. The hotel staff nailed the delivery and we all had a good laugh. After a delicious lunch at Botánico, we walked through Bib Ramblas where Dean rode the bike-powered carousel. Back in el Realejo, Miles and Dean performed their magic/dance/acrobatics show. The grandparents needed some sleep so Julie walked them home and then those us of not jet-lagged watched the rare Heels basketball game that wasn’t way past our bedtimes.
